When it comes to interior decorating, we tend to choose colour schemes because we like them but in actual fact, how you design your home can make a difference to its overall value. A recent report curated by Zillow, a leading rental and real estate marketplace based in America, found that the use of certain colours in certain rooms had an impact on the selling price of a home. Painting the kitchen in a soft gray blue shade resulted in "a $1,809 premium" while living-rooms in beige and taupe tones "sell for $1,926 more than expected".

When it comes to the bathroom, blue comes out on top, fetching $5,440 more that the asking price. One surprising statistic which cropped up showed that bathrooms painted white sold for "an average of $4,035 below similar homes" which is a pretty big difference. Having had a chat about this on the Her desk, most people thought that redoing the bathroom in white was a popular choice as it tends to make a room look bigger but then, it could be argued that the lack of personality can potential buyers off. In addition to making it a fab place to live, upping the value of a house is another reason to redecorate and a blue haven of serenity sounds pretty ideal at 1 pm on a grey Tuesday afternoon. Of course, Instagram and Pinterest are two sources of gorgeous home interiors and we can't stop swooning over these model homes.
