When it comes to dating in Ireland, a lot of the time it centres around drinking. It might be that someone first met their significant other on a night out or that you go on a dinner date with a few drinks beforehand. Obviously, drinking isn't the main factor all of the time, but the majority of the time it is. So, it's no surprise then that the most popular place for Irish people to go on a first date is the pub, with over half of people saying that was where they would go on a first date in a recent survey. It also found that 62 percent of people believe that the pub plays a pivotal role in local communities across Ireland, and over half admit that they go to the pub once a week. The survey was conducted by Vintners’ Federation of Ireland on 1,500 people. Pat Crotty, President of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland commented:

“The results of this consumer research is very uplifting for the trade as it is abundantly clear that the passion for the pub amongst the Irish people is as strong as ever. We like everyone else want to see the Irish pub culture preserved but it’s important that we build on our existing culture and heritage. We need to ensure we continue to move with the times, adapt to ever changing consumer demand and ensure we are giving people a reason to visit the pub."
