So THIS Is Why The McFlurry Spoon Has a Square Hollow End

A very important (yes, it's important) myth has finally been busted. Ever since the dawn of the McFlurry, people have wondered what IS the craic with the spoon? We sort of settled on it being a straw, but attempts to suck the ice cream through it were quickly aborted. Now, Tumblr user The Waiting Platypus, who is an engineer and former McDonald's employee, has lifted the lid on the truth behind the weirdly shaped spoon.

He wrote: "As someone who worked at mcdonald’s i can tell you that: we fill the cup with ice cream, we dump the oreos on top, we stick the spoon in, we put the entire thing in a machine and use the spoon to stir your mcflurry." So, to sum up, the square end of the spoon is shaped thus so that it can attach to the machine. Another problem solved.
