Here’s some easy-peasy ways to destress that chaotic life and mind.
Lavender
Lavender is known to be incredibly relaxing. Try putting some under your pillow at night or indulge in a warm lavender bath to ease your body’s stress. Spraying lavender water on your clothing can be hugely comforting too. If lavender isn’t your favourite scent in the world, feel free to substitute for what you find most soothing and uplifting.
Massage
Yes, it’s time to go and get yourself that much longed for back massage. There’s nothing quite like removing all that tension and feeling your stress hormones vanish instantly.
Be at one with nature
Choose your surroundings wisely. It’s a VERY good idea to get away from it all and head off to the park, the beach or the mountains for a trek. Being close to nature is one fantastic remedy.
Exercise
We don’t always like to hear this one, but exercise is so key for a great night’s sleep, and one of the many things a good rest improves is our mood and ability to deal with the day ahead. Get running, spinning, rowing, walking or climbing. You’ll feel the difference straight away!
Laugh!
It’s one of the most superb cures out there. And we don’t just mean giggle, we mean a good old deep belly laugh. So, once you get home, have yourself some tasty dinner and get watching that comedy ASAP. Those fits of laughter are one hell of a way to heal.
Focus
No not on your worries, but rather on those yoga poses, playing sport, or on that new craft. Painting, knitting (and yes, it seems plenty of people find this old hobby very relaxing indeed), a game of tennis – it all requires focus. When we can only focus on one sole element, the rest of our worries fizzle away. It’s much the same idea as meditation, hence why it works incredibly well.
Give someone a hug
Hugging releases our happy hormone – oxytocin, so undoubtedly, it’s incredibly beneficial and we feel loved after it too. You don’t have to have a human to feel all these content and cheerful vibes either. If you have a fur baby – they love their hugs too!
Declutter
So, a lot of us are very messy. Yep, it’s tough putting every item of clothing back in its proper place when we do nothing but stress about what’s clean and wearable an hour before work. But decluttering and creating that open, clear space also creates space for brighter ideas, thoughts and perspectives in our own minds.
Stretch and breathe
Yeah, you’re probably really tired of the word yoga by now so let’s just call it what it actually is… stretching. But don’t forget to breathe. Stretching VERY slowly and breathing deeply for even a few minutes each day is excellent for improving focus, agility and relieving stress. Just remember to concentrate on how you breathe.
