The FAO Schwarz Flagship Store is Closing Today and New York Just Got a Little Less Magical

One of New York's most iconic spots for big and little kids alike will close its doors for the last time today.  FAO Schwarz, America's oldest toy store, is closing its flagship location on Fifth Avenue. The magical store is best known for the beloved 1988 Tom Hanks film Big, and is home to the floor piano on which Hanks and Robert Loggia danced "Heart & Soul" and "Chopsticks". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yu62StlsMY Known for it's impressive (and massive) stuffed animals, its FAO Schweetz and in recent years as home to a Muppets Whatnot Workshop, where punters could build a Muppet in their own likeness, the store is beloved by tourists from all corners of the world.       FAO Schwarz was acquired by Toys 'R' Us six years ago. In 2013, the new owners announced they would be breaking the lease on the Fifth Avenue location to save money.     FAO Schwarz has assured customers that it will reopen, but this time in Times Square.
