This Town Was Named The Cleanest Area In Ireland… Again!

Kilkenny has been named as Ireland's Cleanest City in Ireland for a second time. According to the Observer, the town is the first city or town to retain the title in the survey by Irish Business Against Litter. Kilkenny, who won the title at an awards ceremony in Dublin, narrowly beat out the main competition, Cavan and Tramore. However, Dublin's inner city was named as the dirtiest urban area in the State, according to the survey. According to the Irish Times, the assessment of the 42 towns and cities was compiled by An Taisce. The paper reported that all but seven towns achieved "clean" rating. The survey found that Castlebar was "littered", Tallaght, Dublin Airport's environs, Mullingar, Tipperary Town and Portlaoise were "moderately littered". However, Dublin's inner city was labelled as a "litter black spot". Although the city centre was given a clean rating, the Northeast of the city was described as "extremely dirty". Dublin City Council announced that they are aware of the problem and are putting together a series of plans to help tackle the problem, including calling to resident's houses who they believe are littering on the street.
