Whilst many young people struggle to get onto the housing ladder, some have decided to take some unique measures in order to have a place of their own.
Aniah Warne, a 21-year-old from Boise, Idaho shared her unusual living situation in a video on TikTok.
She gave her followers a tour of her one-room abode, saying "I love this so much" after someone commented that she "lives in a f***ing shed."
In the clip, she said: "I do live in a shed. This is my shed."
Warne showed how the shed is in her parents' green backyard, just a few yards from their home.
She demonstrated how one of the walls "opens up" to give her a view of the outdoor bamboo plant from her bed, whilst she has a door on the side to access the room.
The space is decorated a number of plants, floating shelves, posters, and a tapestry.
She explained: "So I have my desk, a TV, my bed, and then this is the view sitting in my bed.
"And then I have my nightstand with essentials, a cute little chair, plant, shelves, fridge. I have this mirror to look at outfits and then this is my closet."
Because she lives so close to her parents' house, the lack of a bathroom or kitchen in the shed is no problem, as she just uses her parents' facilities.
She captioned the post: "I love my rent-free shed."
Some viewers were concerned about what the "bug situation" was in the shed, but Warne said she had never found it to be an issue.
She replied: "'Honestly, I don't have an issue with spiders or mosquitos or flies. I have the door and the window open right now, and there is not a single fly in here.
I do have to be concerned about leaving food out, though, because of ants."
Others wondered whether the shed got too hot or too cold, but Warne explained she had an air conditioner and heater to cover both issues.
In a separate clip, she admitted that when she was younger she dreamed of moving away and studying at n out-of-state school before getting a job.
However, she ended up going to college in her hometown, living in her parents' backyard, and being a 'stoner.'
In the time since she shared the video a few years ago, she has moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, in winter to go snowboarding.
But recent videos suggest she's back in the familiar surroundings of her parents' backyard.
