Yellow weather warnings issued for three counties amid flood risk

Rain, rain, go away!

Most of the country will see outbreaks of rain today with some strong winds. It's looking like temperatures will stay around 10 or 11 degrees Celsius around the country. A yellow warning for rainfall has been issued for 3 counties in the south, with 30 to 40 mm expected to fall in some areas and a risk of flooding. Cork, Kerry and Waterford have been told to prepare for a lot of rain over the next few days. Met Éireann said "heavy rain on Thursday night and Friday may cause some river flooding and localised surface flooding. Rainfall totals of 30 to 40mm, higher in mountainous regions.” They also tweeted: "with spells of heavy rain in the forecast over the next few days, there'll be a risk of #flooding in some areas. #Rain warnings in place tonight for #Cork, #Kerry & #Waterford with further warnings possible over the coming days."

The same three counties, Cork, Kerry and Waterford, are also being warned of the strong winds with gusts of up to 100 kilometres an hour expected to hit the counties until 4pm. The Met Éireann weather warning states "strong southerly winds on Thursday night and Friday with mean speeds of 50 to 60km/h and gusts of 80 to 100km/h. There remains a possibility of localised coastal flooding." The wind warning is in place until 4pm today. In the east it's looking like it will rain on and off for most of the day, it will remain cloudy and temperatures will stay at around 10 or 11 degrees Celsius. As for the west of the country the forecaster said "conditions will improve in the west later this morning, with a clearance to sunny spells and scattered heavy showers." They've also issued a status yellow marine warning saying "southerly winds will continue to reach gale force 8 today (Friday) on Irish coastal waters from Fair Head to Wicklow Head to Mizen Head and on the Irish Sea."
