4 food businesses were served with closure orders in October

Four food businesses, most of whom provide takeaway, were served with closure orders in October. They were served the closure orders by the Food Safety Authority as they breached food and safety standards. The following premises were closed:

New York Pizza in Ballina, Co Tipperary was closed from October 27th to 31st. Beijing Taste Buffet on North Main Street, Co Cork from October 24th to October 27th. Saffron, in Creeslough, Co Donegal from October 19th to October 2th. Chick Chicken in Cobh, Co Cork from October 18th to October 21st.

New York Pizza was closed under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations 2010, while the other three were forced to close under the FSAI Act 1998. Commenting on closure orders recently, FSAI boss Dr Pamela Byrne said:

"The majority of food businesses in Ireland must be commended for adhering to the highest of food safety standards, but there continues to be a number of food businesses disregarding important food safety standards. Each Enforcement Order sends a clear message to food businesses that unsafe food safety practices or non-compliance with food legislation is not tolerated by the inspection officers. There is absolutely no excuse for negligent practices. Food businesses must recognise that they are legally bound to make sure that the food they serve is safe to eat. This requires ongoing compliance with food safety legislation and hygiene standards. There is absolutely no excuse for careless practices.”
