An original copy of the 1916 Proclamation has sold for €150k at auction

The official anniversary of the 1916 rebellion falls this Sunday, April 24th, and many people will have the proclamation on their minds.

This pivotal document is an emblem of Irish history, and is a symbol of everything the rebels fought for a century ago. Today a centenary memorabilia auction was in the Gresham Hotel, Dublin, and an original copy of the proclamation was sold for the princely sum of €150,000.

Over 600 artefacts were sold at the auction, and the proclamation was bought by a private Irish collector. In other commemorative events, the National Print Museum printed an exact scale replica of the original document.
