Ashling Murphy’s family set up concert in her memory

The event takes place on Sunday.

The family of Ashling Murphy have set up a trust fund in her memory and is aiming to raise money for causes that were close to the teacher's heart. Raising nearly €1,600 already, her family are also organising a concert which is set to be held this Sunday during the Tullamore Tradfest to remember her. The 23 year old primary school teacher was killed on January 12th after she was assaulted while out jogging in Tullamore, her hometown. There was public outcry following her death as people in both Ireland and around the world mourned. One of the first organisations that her family are looking to raise money for is the Tullamore Tradfest, which is taking place on Sunday at Tullamore Court Hotel. Ending with a memorial concert Ceiliuradh Ceolmhar ar Ashling Murphy in honour of Ashling, Ballyboy CCE, the Macalla na hEireann Tour Group, the Sacred Heart School Choir and Orchestra, and Best Foot Forward are among the acts performing. The event is set to be live streamed by Tullamore Tradfest and TG4 and anyone watching along is asked to make donations upport the GoFundMe campaign TTF2022 for The Ashling Murphy Memorial Trust. Organiser James Hogan told The Mirror: “It’s a special concert to remember Ashling for who she was. "Ashling reached out to so many people, locally, nationally and internationally. “We are going to bring all that back to Tullamore and show her family that while she is gone she will never be forgotten.” Ashling, a 23-year-old primary school teacher, was killed while out jogging along the canal bank at Cappincur in Tullamore, Offaly in January. As well as being a teacher, Ms Murphy was a talented musician and had performed in many festivals and venues around the country.
