The good weather could return next week as forecaster predicts warm spell

Just a little sunshine and some heat on our bones – it's not too much to ask, right?

Well, that might be just what we're in for, according to one forecaster. Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather is predicting that next week could see a return to the good weather we enjoyed earlier this summer. Though it's too early to be certain, he said in a tweet, weather charts suggest that a band of high pressure could bring about a warm few days at the end of next week.

"This summer ain’t over yet! High pressure to push the Jet Stream North from end of next week based on the weather charts," he wrote. "It could change but the trend is there a few days now. Come on Summer 2019 go out on a high note."

We've our fingers crossed that this will happen but for now things are set to remain damp and cool. Today will start wet and windy, Met Éireann says, with scattered showers and sunny spells throughout the day. Highs of 18 to 21 degrees and fresh to strong and gusty winds are forecast. Tomorrow, Saturday, is predicted to be a blustery day with scattered showers and good sunny spells. Top temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees. Sunday is expected to be much the same, though Met Éireann says showers will become heavy and widespread during the morning, with the odd thundery downpour.
