Hero, Davitt Walsh, speaks out about ex-girlfriend for suing the McGrotty family

"I have moved on with my life since that Day, in the best way that I can. "Please respect my privacy."

The hero, who tried to save five members of the same family after their car slipped off Buncrana Pier has finally spoken out against his ex-girlfriend, who is suing the family. Davitt Walsh and his then-girlfriend Stephanie were among the first at the scene when the McGrotty family's jeep rolled into Lough Swilly in an accident in March of 2016. Davitt jumped into the water to try and save the family. He first rescued the four-month-old daughter, but unfortunately couldn't save the rest of the family. Stephanie, who stood by the side and gave the baby CPR while Davitt tried to rescue the others, is now seeking an undisclosed sum for loss of earnings and other costs.

In 2016, Davitt was rewarded for his bravery in saving the four-month-old baby, Rioghnach-Ann, and was honoured with the Michael Heffernan award. In the few months after Davitt saved Rioghnach-Ann, he took part in the Belfast Marathon with the mother and wife of the victims, Louise. He was also given a guard of honour when he returned to football with Fanad United.
