The lucky husband bought a Millionaire Raffle ticket just days before Christmas as a stocking filler for his other half.
When they checked the numbers on New Year’s Eve, they came to the realisation that they had won the second highest prize of €100,000.
The wife told Donegal Daily: "My husband dashed to the shops on Christmas Eve, thinking he needed to grab something small to go with my present. A couple of days later, during a family dinner, we joked that we might be sitting on a fortune with the ticket.
"I saw the Lottery announced the winning locations of the big prizes and realised that a winning ticket was sold in the exact store where I bought ours," her husband added.
"I jokingly sent her a message saying it could be hers – and to our total surprise, it was our raffle number! She couldn’t stop shaking when she realised. It was like her body went into shock."
The ticket was sold in Columba Diver’s shop on Main Street in Ardara.
A lotto player in Co. Meath won the incredible top prize of €1 million in last night’s Millionaire Raffle draw
A player in Meath scooped the top prize of €1,000,000, while six other players in Cork, Donegal, Kerry, and Kildare are also celebrating after winning the other top tier prizes of €100,000.
The fortunate couple from Donegal added that they have no immediate plans to spend their winnings, but couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025.
