How Irish radio will pay tribute to Dolores O’Riordan as she’s laid to rest

Singer Dolores O'Riordan will be laid to rest today.

Hers is a loss that has resonated with Irish people and music fans around the world so it's only fitting that Irish radio commemorates her in some way. All independent radio stations and 2FM will simultaneously play 1996 single When You're Gone by the Cranberries at 12 noon today as a mark of respect to the singer. 2FM announced the news on Twitter, calling it a "fitting tribute... to one of our greatest singers ever."

Dolores died at the age of 46 on January 15, Monday of last week, at a hotel in London. She had been due to record a version of the Cranberries song Zombie with band Bad Wolves that day. Her funeral mass will take place today in her native Ballybricken in County Limerick, followed by a private family burial. Hundreds of people turned out in Limerick city last night for a vigil in honour of Dolores.
