Chloe Koyce's story about the incident at her Dublin hotel has opened our eyes to just how dangerous the world can be, but presenter Katja Mia is reassuring women with some incredibly helpful advice.
The TV host posted a video about the vital safety tip that helped her when she was travelling alone last year.
"I think we're all in the same boat when we say we're all filled with such rage after hearing what happened to Chloe Koyce, and it just got me thinking about hotel safety.
"I'm actually in a hotel right now, but I'm staying with my partner, so it's completely different," Katja shared.
"Last year, I was solo travelling, and I went on a solo trip to Lisbon. When it comes to hotel safety, especially when you're staying alone, my older sister gave me such good advice."
Katja then explained: "If you're travelling alone and checking into your room and the hotel receptionist says your room number out loud, you can immediately request another room."
Katja stressed that sharing a woman's room number out loud is incredibly dangerous because you don't know who is in the reception.
"I wouldn't even think twice about it. It has happened to me before where I've been at a reception and there are people around me and they say my full name, give me my hotel room card and they say the room number.
"That puts you in such a dangerous situation, especially as a woman in this climate. I do feel like it's the hotel's responsibility to remain discreet when it comes to things like this."
Katja added, "I hate that we have to be extra cautious in this world, but it's a great piece of advice that my sister gave me, and I use it to this day."
Katja's followers praised her for being so proactive following what happened to Chloe Koyce. There's no doubt her sister's advice will help many women feel safer if they're travelling alone.
