Latest: Met Éireann gives new weather warnings as Storm Lorenzo approaches

Met Éireann has updated its weather warnings as Ireland prepares for the arrival of Storm Lorenzo.

A Status Orange wind warning will be in place for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Kerry and Limerick from 6pm this evening to 3am tomorrow (Friday) morning. Cork will no longer be on orange alert at this time. A Status Yellow wind warning will come into effect for the rest of Ireland at 9am this morning and will remain in place until 6pm this evening. There will be a Status Yellow rainfall warning for Connacht, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal in place from 9am this morning to 6am tomorrow morning. Met Éireann also this morning released new satellite footage showing Storm Lorenzo moving towards Ireland's west coast.

Members of the public have been advised to keep up with weather reports throughout the day and take all necessary precautions. The National Emergency Coordination Group will meet again today to discuss preparations for the storm's impact on Ireland. The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Eoghan Murphy yesterday warned that today's weather would be have unpredictable consequences.
