Met Eireann has said that some parts of the country may see sleet and snow this week

So the time has finally come, the weather is officially BALTIC. And according to Met Eireann, that's just how life is from now on. The forecast for the week is set to be cold, like very bloody cold. "Wednesday will be cold and mostly cloudy. Patchy rain in many areas at first. Heavier rain will develop in the west during the morning and spread eastwards, turning to sleet in places." So there it is, we have our first winter shower of the year. "It will be heavy at times with a risk of thunder in Connacht and Munster. Much of Ulster and north Leinster will stay mainly dry until evening. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with moderate south to southeast winds." "Wednesday night will be cold, breezy and mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain which will turn increasingly wintry over much of Leinster and Munster with snow on hills and mountains." "The rain and sleet will clear southwards overnight with clear periods following and with frost and icy patches developing. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees. with light to moderate northerly breezes." So yeah basically, if you can travel with a hot water bottle on you, we suggest you do. Apparently, Thursday will be cold, dry and bright in most areas with good sunshine. However, there'll be some showers on east and north facing coasts. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees with moderate northerly breezes. The night will be cold with frost in many inland areas and some lingering coastal showers. Friday will be cold and bright with sunny spells. Most areas will be dry. However, there'll be a few showers in the northwest and southeast, and a sharp frost will develop on Friday night. Saturday will start off dry and bright. However, rain will develop in the west during the morning and then spread across the country through the afternoon and evening, turning to sleet in places as it does so. Very cold with highest temperatures of just 3 to 7 degrees and light breezes. On Saturday night, rain and sleet will continue, with snow developing on higher ground, but gradually clearing southeastwards overnight and early on Sunday. Sunday will be cold and mainly dry with sunny spells and with frost developing at night.
