What you need to know about the Dublin Bus strikes

Dublin Bus drivers are due to go on strike, starting from 9pm Wednesday night. These strikes are set to disrupt 400,000 passengers a day and will cost the company in and around €600,000 daily. The strike will also affect Nitelink services, Airlink services, sightseeing tours and even *gasp* The Ghostbus (step too far Dublin Bus). Here is an excerpt from the official statement

“The Trade Unions have confirmed that this action will take place from midnight on Wednesday night, 7 September. This leaves us with no option but to terminate all routes at 21.00 on Wednesday night. No services will operate on Thursday, 8 September and Friday, 9 September, including Friday night Nitelink”.

Tensions have been high at Dublin Bus following disagreement between staff and management over wages. It has been reported that staff are seeking a pay increase of 15% over three years, on top of a 6% payment award they are due dating back to 2008. Essentially, the drivers are looking for pay parity with Luas drivers, which would require an increase of 31% in total.
