Detectives believe the remains are those of missing child Daniel Aruebose, who would now be seven years of age.
The discovery was made during a Garda search of wasteland on Portrane Road in Donabate.
Aruebose is known to have resided at The Gallery Apartments in Donabate.
The remains will now be exhumed, and Gardaí will conduct a forensic examination of the area.
A forensic paediatric pathologist will also conduct a post-mortem examination on the child's remains to try to find out the cause of death.
Gardaí are expected to name the child and issue a photograph of him later today, September 17th.
The child was only discovered missing after the Department of Social Protection alerted Tusla to irregularities in an application for child support.
Tusla then contacted Gardaí who began their investigation.
Gardaí were told the child was buried after dying from natural causes.
