Seven-year-old boy’s touching letter to GAA club following Monaghan sinkhole

A seven-year-old boy has sent a touching letter to a GAA club following a sinkhole in Monaghan.

The hole appeared on the Magheracloone GAA pitch in Carrickmacross last week following the collapse of a Gypsum mine. A local national school was evacuated and many road diversions were put in place due to the mine collapse. Since the incident, a seven-year-old boy from Meath has contacted his local GAA club to ask that their team play the Magheracloone under-7s in a charity match. The money raised would go towards setting up temporary facilities for the club until the pitch is suitable to play on again. In the letter shared by the Magheracloone GAA club on Twitter, the boy wrote:

"Dear Ratoath GAA club, "I play for the Ratoath under-7s. Did you hear about Magheracloone's football pitch? "Can Ratoath under-7s play their under-7s in a charity match? I think it would help get [sic] mony for their new club."

https://twitter.com/MitchellsGAA_/status/1046444163615608832 Magheracloone GAA club have also set up their own GoFundMe to raise money following the Carrickmacross sinkhole. On the fundraiser page, they wrote that they hoped their club would "survive this disaster."

"We all know that any football club is the backbone of the community and the foundation for many friendships. Funds will be required to source and setup temporary facilities. "Please give a little or a lot. It takes a community to raise children. x"
