Six Ryanair crew have lost their jobs after staging a photo sleeping on an airport floor

CCTV footage was obtained showing the six members of staff posing for the photo.

Last week budget airline company, Ryanair made headlines as it was announced that 10kg carry on bags will no longer be free of charge.  The airline is now at the centre of more controversy as they have fired six crew members who staged a picture of them pretending to sleep on an airport floor in Malaga airport. The photograph emerged on 14 October of six crew members lying in the Malaga crew room after their flight was diverted due to adverse weather conditions, leaving them stranded as a result. The snap quickly went viral and now Ryanair has terminated the contacts of the staff in question as CCTV saw them staging the picture. The Irish Times obtained the statement from an official spokesperson regarding the matter:

“All six cabin crew members in Porto were dismissed on Monday 5 Nov for breach of contract on grounds of gross misconduct, after staging a fake photograph to support a false claim (widely reported in international media outlets) that they were ‘forced to sleep on the floor’ of the Malaga crew room, which was behaviour which damaged their employer’s reputation and caused an irreparable breach of trust with these six persons."

Ryanair initially apologised after the photo emerged on social media for not being able to secure accommodation for the staff, but after obtaining the CCTV footage of the night in question, posted it on Twitter with the caption: "Ryanair exposes fake photo of cabin crew sleeping in crew room."
