Stray dog found caring for five abandoned kittens and yes, we’re bawling

Serenity, a stray dog found in Canada, has been hailed a hero.

In what might be the most wholesome content you'll read today, the brave doggo was found protecting five kittens at the side of a road by an Animal Control Officer in Ontario. According to reports, temperatures were below freezing at the time but this didn't deter Serenity from looking after the brood of baby cats. The Instagram post was shared by Pet and Wildlife Rescue and they have been inundated with questions since. It began:

"I have been getting A LOT of attention on social media, but let me fill you in just in case you don't know my name and my story! My name is Serenity and I was found last week on the side of the road keeping 5 kittens warm. A good citizen called the shelter, a kind Animal Control Officer picked the 6 of us up and we've been living our best lives ever since!"

The kittens are currently being looked after by a foster family and will be put up for adoption once they're old enough. The post goes on to give a description of Serenity, aged two-years-old, who is also looking for a forever home. With "the energy of a toddler", this is a puppy who loves to play.

"Along with my dominance, I am HUGE on playing and have a tendency to get right in other dog's faces. I didn't get along with the dominant or even slightly reactive shelter dogs. I do need help with my house training as it is not perfect".

The post also says that the shelter in question is worried about potential backlash for nor rehoming the kittens with Serenity but this would mean waiting for a few months and of course, that's not fair.
