“There Is Still A Long And Difficult Road Ahead” – Schumacher Released From Hospital

Seven-time Formula One winning champion, Michael Schumacher, has been moved from the Univeristy Hospital in Lausanne to his home today. The racing car driver was being treated at the Swiss facility in June for severe head injuries he sustained in a skiing accident in December 2013. Schumacher was moved to the Lausanne facility from a hospital in Grenoble, France, where he had been cared for since the accident occurred. The former Formula One champion has not been home in the nine months since the accident, which happened during a holiday at the French ski resort, Meribel. The fall saw Schumacher hit his head on a rock and was placed in a medically induced coma due to the severity of his injuries. Schumacher emerged from the coma in June to reduce the swelling in his brain and has been making slow progress since. Now, it has been decided that his recuperation will take continue at his home near the shores of Lake Geneva in Gland, 25 miles from the facility he has been in since June. In a statement released by his manager, Sabine Kehm today, it was expressed: “Michael’s rehabilitation will continue from now on from home. Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months.” “There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead.” Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, is believed to have the home fully equipped for the driver, with the most advanced and up-to-date medical equipment to hand. “We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire team at CHUV Lausanne for their thorough and competent work,” the statement continued. “We ask that the privacy of Michael’s family continue to be respected and that speculation about his state of health is avoided.”
