Tragic death of seven-year-old girl linked to meningitis

It is believed the little girl was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after falling ill last week.

Reports in the Irish Mirror say that the girl, Bronagh Kinney, is from Cushendall in County Antrim and was due to make her First Holy Communion this year. Parish priest in the area is Fr Luke McWilliams:

"She was a lovely wee girl, very popular in the school She was looking forward to making her First Communion this year. It's very sad for everyone who knew her. The community is rallying around the family at this very sad time."

This is the second death in a week that has been linked to meningitis - an infection of the membranes around the brain. There are different types but bacterial and viral meningitis are the two most common. Last week, University College Cork confirmed one of their students, Grainne O'Donnell, died from meningitis.
