Vicar Street music venue is being turned into a hotel

We're fond of attending an 'oul gig in Vicar Street.

It has been an established music venue for the past twenty years and it's safe to say most people in Ireland have been there once or twice in their lives. However, it was announced today that the music venue is being turned into a 185-room hotel. It's not all bad news though, because the venue will still stay and it's going to be upgraded as well, with 500 additional seating planned to be put in place. There will also be an 8th-floor private club which we think we can all agree would be pretty deadly to go to after a gig. Speaking today on the announcement, Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions said: "We are delighted to be involved with such an innovative scheme which will bring a new experience to our clients where they can relax after a show and not worry about getting home. "We will increase the range of talent we present and enhance the whole experience of attending a concert." It has also been reported that the 4-star hotel will have a 'Rock and Room' theme, which will offer guests packages on tickets for concerts, a meal and a room. According to RTÉ, planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment, so it's only a matter of time before we see a change to the venue.
