What’s the difference between Superman and Wonder Woman?

About $13.5 million... and some change. It was first reported back in 2014 that Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman herself, would be taking home a paycheque of $300,000 for the movie. The news caused quite a stir at a time when many other actresses were taking a stand against the blatant gender pay inequality in Hollywood. However, the information have caused fresh rows lately as the film has become one of the most financially successful movies of the year, taking in an incredible $573.5 million worldwide.

Gadot’s salary is shockingly low in comparison, and even more so when you take other actors’ earnings into consideration. Fellow DC Universe actor, Henry Cavill, made $14 million for playing the role of Superman in Man of Steel which made a total of $668 million worldwide - not a whole lot more than Wonder Woman has pulled in so far. How is it then that Gadot earned just two percent of Cavill’s salary? Gadot is just another actress whose paycheque is a shadow of their male counterparts'. Jennifer Lawrence, Robin Wright, Natalie Portman and Emma Watson have all spoken out about the pay inequality they’ve experienced in their careers. According to reports, there isn’t much that Gadot can do about her paycheck right now. The actress signed a three-movie deal where she agreed to be paid $300,000 for Batman v. Superman, Wonder Woman and the upcoming Justice League. With Wonder Woman 2 looking more and more likely thanks to the huge success of this first film, we’ll have to wait and see if the actress’ paycheck will see an increase.
