Yellow wind warning issued for four counties today

As the country takes on another cold spell, a Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for four Irish counties as the weather continues to worsen. Met Eireann has issued the warning for Donegal, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim and it will be in place from 1pm today until 9pm tomorrow as "severe" conditions are expected over the eight hours. They said: "Winds will be strongest at the coast with some severe gusts at times too, which may make driving conditions difficult." There is also a status yellow alert for gales around the Irish coastline, with the national forecaster saying that coastal flooding is a possibility. They added: "Westerly winds veering northwesterly will reach gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 at times on Irish coastal waters from Valentia to Bloody Foreland to Howth Head and on the Irish Sea North of Anglesey." This comes into effect from 12pm today until 7am on Thursday. Despite some good weather in March, April is set to be "much colder" than previous years and we can expect some "unstable" periods over the coming weeks. For this weekend, we can certainly expect wintery conditions as they said: "A mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, with the chance of some wintry showers, mainly on hills and mountains. A touch of frost is possible, in a light northwesterly breeze. "Wet and windy for much of the day [Sunday] with possible localised flooding."
