Queen’s University tells students not to dress like Kim Kardashian for Graduation day

Queen's University Belfast recently issued a list of tips for Graduation day to students on its website.

When students registered for the ceremony they were brought to a page entitled 'Style tips for graduation week: Wear it well'. Students were told to remember that it is a formal event and that 'short skirts and cleavage on show are totally out of the question'. Women were also told not to dress like Kim Kardashian and to channel Grace Kelly instead. According to the Belfast Telegraph, these tips, which featured on the University's website were from former student Thom Dickerson, who runs his own self-titled private tailoring company based in Belfast. The post also recommended "discreet safety pins" for ladies to wear to avoid any "last minute wardrobe disasters". The 'style tips' can no longer be accessed on the website and may have been removed after students called out the post for being offensive. One female student who emailed the college to complain about the post called it 'deplorable'.

"Are we not a bit more mature than making cleavage out to be 'bad' or even 'sacrosanct'? I feel massively condescended to and genuinely offended to be offered this advice." The student said.

"This is a dynamic webpage which is constantly updated. It currently includes stories about the achievements of our most recent graduates,"
