4 influencers named by watchdog for repeatedly breaking advertising rules in UK

They will be on the list for three months.

The names are in, we know exactly which influencers in the UK have been avoiding disclosing ads on their social media. Chloe Ferry, Chloe Khan, Jodie Marsh and Lucy Mecklenburgh are the first to be named by the UK's advertising watchdog for not sharing the information. On a list shared on the Advertising Standards Authority's website, it states that these influencers "are in breach of the CAP Code for routinely failing to clearly disclose when they are advertising to consumers on their social media channels." The four listed have not made it clear on social media that they have received payment for a post despite the fact that they were put on a notice.   They will remain on the list for three months, with enhanced spot checks by the ASA monitoring teams. The ASA stated on the page: "Those on this list either failed to provide that assurance in the first instance or subsequently reneged on it and will be subject to a period of enhanced monitoring spot checks. Failure to comply might result in further targeted sanctions such as ASA paid ad campaigns highlighting the influencer’s continued non-compliance and onwards referral to enforcement partners." They have also warned other brands and influencers would be added too if they also break the rules. [caption id="attachment_214515" align="alignnone" width="415"] Lucy Mecklenburgh[/caption] The ASA revealed in March that they had been monitoring 122 UK influencers and only 35% of the time found that the rules around ad disclosure were being followed. The four influencers had been contacted and asked that they need to include and be clear when it comes to ad label in their sponsored posts. But the influencers either ignored this, or did it another time and ended up on this list as a result. If this list doesn't work, the ASA said that they will take further action by taking out ads naming the people, working with platforms to have content removed or even possible fines being administered.
