Calvin Harris hit with backlash for posting ‘unnecessary’ photo after son’s birth

A disclaimer would've been better

The Scottish DJ shared a carousel of photos on his Instagram yesterday (4 August) to reveal that his wife and media personality, Vick Hope, had given birth to their son on July 20th.

The first few photos show him holding his newborn son Micah and Vick's home birth process.

However, the next few photos are what have people talking.

From the fourth picture onwards, the images show Calvin's wife's placenta, the process of drying and grinding it into a powder and then finally the placenta in pill-sized capsules.

Calvin captioned the post: "My wife is a superhero and I am in complete awe of her primal wisdom! Just so grateful. We love you so much Micah."

Naturally, the comments were filled with congratulatory comments, however, many people weren't too happy about the picture of the whole placenta laid out on the table.

One user wrote: "I was NOT prepared for the placenta pic."

Another agreed, writing: "Placenta pic was not needed bro."

One commented: "Placenta pic is exactly what I needed to remind me to stay single and childless for a few more years," before adding: "Didn’t expect to see a full on placenta pic whilst eating my lunch today."

While others immediately came to the famous DJ's defence: "Congratulations and thanks for sharing about the placenta too, it’s important to normalise certain aspects of childbirth and not make it an area we don’t talk about.”

Another said: "You know what, I don’t think I ever got to even see the 3 placentas my body made! This is incredible to look at, really. Mother Nature 🌬️ congratulations 💖"
