You can now do a module all about Taylor Swift’s music at a Texas university

Yes, you can really now do a module in college that is all about Taylor Swift and her music. Starting at the University of Texas at Austin (UTA), anyone looking to study there can take part in a new literature course titled The Taylor Swift Songbook. Texts for the module are set to include her albums Red (Taylor's Version), Lover, Folklore and Evermore. Similar to New York University who offers a course on Swift as a music entrepreneur, fans of the singer will be able to study how she writes her music and what makes it successful. According to the course outline on the UTA website, it "uses the songwriting of pop music icon Taylor Swift to introduce literary critical reading and research methods-basic skills for work in English literature and other humanities disciplines". "Focusing on Swift's music and the cultural contexts in which it and her career are situated, we'll consider frameworks for understanding her work, such as poetic form, style, and history among various matters and theoretical issues important to contextualization as we practice close and in-depth reading, evaluating secondary sources, and building strong arguments," the description continued. This isn't the first of it's kind either as another Texas university offers a course all about Harry Styles. Starting in 2023, the course titled Harry Styles and the Cult of Celebrity: Identity, the Internet, and European Pop Culture will be offered to students at Texas State University Honours College in San Marcos. The course is set to focus on the former One Direction star’s work in both music and film to help students “understand the cultural and political development of the modern celebrity". Dr Louie Dean Valencia announced the news on Twitter, saying it is the first course of its kind. He wrote: "It's official, official. I'm the world's first ever university course on the work of #HarryStyles. "It's happening Spring 2023 at @TXST University. This is what tenure looks like. Let's gooooo!" Posting a synopsis of the course itself, it reads: "This course focuses on British musician Harry Styles and popular European culture to understand the cultural and political development of the modern celebrity as related to questions of gender and sexuality, race, class, nation and globalism, media, fashion, fan culture, internet culture, and consumerism."
