Fleetwood Mac star Christine McVie's cause of death has been revealed. According to her death certificate, the singer-songwriter died of an "ischemic stroke". It was announced in November that Christine had passed away at the age of 79 following a "short illness". US media outlets are now reporting that the stroke is listed as one of the primary causes of her death, as well as "atrial fibrillation" and "large atrial thrombus". Ischemic strokes are the most common type of stroke and happen when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain. Atrial fibrillation, which is also listed, is a heart condition that causes an irregular and abnormally fast heart rate and atrial thrombus is a blood clot.

Christine's death also mentions a "metastatic malignancy of unknown origin", referring to cancer but it is listed as a secondary cause. Revealing that Christine had sadly passed away, her family said in a heartbreaking statement: "She was in the company of her family. "We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie.” Fleetwood Mac issued a joint statement following the keyboardist's death. The group shared: “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. "She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. "We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”
