Controlling Britney Spears: New documentary airing in Ireland tonight

The new film has just landed on Irish streaming platforms.

A follow up documentary to the infamous Framing Britney Spears film will air in Ireland tonight. Controlling Britney Spears is a new film from the team behind the New York Times' Britney documentary which aired earlier this year - the first of its kind detailing the treatment of the pop star in the media and the music industry. This new film, released following the news that Britney's conservatorship under her father is coming to an end, includes interviews with key insiders and those with first-hand information about the legal binding that had controlled the pop star’s life for the past 13 years. According to producers, Controlling Britney Spears details the intricacies of the star's conservatorship, and the intense surveillance she was subjected due during this time. The documentary also features a confidential report filed by Britney in 2016, where she told a court that the situation had become “an oppressive and controlling tool against her.” Britney spoke at length about her conservatorship earlier this year, stating that she was not permitted to remove her IUD or control her credit cards. She also said that conservatorship was "abusive." “It is my wish and dream for all of this to end. I want my life back," she told a judge. "After I’ve told the whole world I’m OK, it’s a lie. I’m not happy, I can’t sleep, I’m depressed, I cry every day. “I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. My request is to end the conservatorship without being evaluated like before. “I have an IUD in my body right now that won’t let me have a baby, and my conservators won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out." Britney's father Jamie said earlier this month that he was ending the conservatorship. Britney also recently announced that she is engaged to partner, Sam Asghari.
