Paul Mescal’s mum Dearbhla says she has “no fear” battling cancer

"There are no words for the tiredness"

Dearbhla Mescal is documenting her next round of cancer treatment on social media as she battles multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is a type of bone marrow cancer that often affects several areas of the body, such as the spine, skull, pelvis and ribs. Just a few weeks ago, she returned to St James’ Hospital for her next round of chemo treatment and has been updating her followers ever since. In an emotional post to Instagram, Dearbhla wrote: "There is nothing more glorious and amazing than our bodies learning to heal and gifting us with new life! "I am blessed truly in every way for the treatment received and will for the rest of my lifetime. I have no fear, I know this body of mine is able, willing & wanting to live to my fullest. "I'll seek my joys from wherever I see, hear, feel them. You are loved, you are held and you can do anything. "I will take this next stage as I need to, slowly. I'm in no rush. "I'm filled with joy, grace and love. If truly honest, I am at one with this amazing body of mine and all she has done, given life, survived operations and will now daily fight my cancer. "She is it all for me and it is time to go home. I have no words for the gratitude of receiving visuals of your joys. "They truly raised me and I feel the love within them. May you always know joy and continue to share because each of us matter and joys are made to be shared and multiply. "The Burkitt Ward at St James Dublin will forever be in my heart."

"No words for the tiredness"

Last night, she also shared a health update on her Instagram story. She wrote: "Besides the fire looking up at the blue sky, there are no words for the tiredness but honestly it is day 1. "I am learning that small bites little and often is keeping my stomach at bay." Dearbhla has kept a very positive headspace throughout her treatment and has been open and honest about it all. She said she wants to share her experiences so that other people going through similar illnesses can relate and feel that they're not alone. Dearbhla's Oscar nominee son, Paul Mescal sent her well wishes after the Olivier Awards in London two weeks ago. He dedicated his "Best Actor Award" to her and gave her the sweetest tribute. The Normal People actor take home best actor for his role as Stanley Kowalski in the new stage adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire. In his acceptance speech he said he hopes the award will give his mum a "little bit of a lift" as she battles the disease. To finsih he said: "I hope you get better."
