Doireann Garrihy shares the one aspect of motherhood she can’t prepare for

Doireann Garrihy is set to welcome her first child soon

On an episode of her podcast, Doireann and Friends, the soon-to-be mother spoke about her expectations of motherhood.

She recalled a recent post of hers on social media holding coffee and a comment she received about it.

"‘I made an iced coffee and somebody replied saying, 'I really hope that’s decaf for the baba'", Doireann said.

"Generally, I would ignore, but I just replied and said my doctor told me I could have a coffee a day."

"I was kinda like, first of all, why are you saying this to me?" she continued.

"And second of all, it’s none of your business."

Doireann shares that the judgment is something she isn't prepared for as a new mother

"I don’t know how I’m going to prepare for it," she explains.

"a) Judgement from people, and,

"b) Mom guilt as a result of people being judged."

Her sister Ailbhe joined her on the podcast and explained that parenthood and pregnancy open up the "floodgates" of people saying whatever they think:

"For me, there might be a picture of my kids in the car,

"'They’re not strapped in properly', 'They shouldn’t be forward facing'."

The presenter also notes in the podcast that one commenter said they knew she was pregnant because her Dancing With the Stars costumes were "very leg-focused."

Their conversation on motherhood asks many questions.

But the real question is, why do people care about someone's legs? Or why are they having one cup of coffee in a photo?

It's strange that once you become a mother, the world only looks at your faults, as if mums aren't people too.
