Emily Blunt: “[Jamie Dornan] assured me that I sounded Irish and I’m going to believe him”

Emily Blunt has said that her Wild Mountain Thyme co-star Jamie Dornan assured her she does, indeed, sound Irish in the upcoming film. The movie, which is set for release this December, tells the story of a couple of farmers who fall in love in the countryside while Christopher Walken looks on. The tale is one of deception, love, and most importantly, confusion, as it seems to be both simultaneously set in the 18th and 21st centuries respectively.  It's also got a lot of questionable accents in it. And honestly, lads, we get it. The Irish accent is hard, it's difficult to master. It can't just be switched on akin to a cockney English or a highland Scottish - and yet, people try to attempt it, again and again. The latest folk to do this are the film's stars Jamie Dornan and Emily Blunt. Boasting a Northern Irish and English accent between them, the pair shouldn't have found it too difficult to get somewhere with the midlands drawl. And according to Dornan, they do actually sound Irish in the movie. We'll, eh, let you be the judge of that. Blunt told PEOLE magazine that she had a bit more trouble than her co-star when delivering her lines. "Jamie's from Northern Ireland," she said. "So we were both sort of thrown in at the deep end having to do an accent that was unfamiliar. "I'll admit, I'm sure I had a tougher time with it than he did initially, but he's not usually one to give people tips, he's the most unpresumptuous person ever. But he assured me that I sounded Irish and I'm going to believe him. "So if he's wrong, I'm going to blame him for any backlash on my accent. He has assured me it was a great Irish accent. We'll see." Dornan added that despite being from the North, he was "terrified" of getting the accent wrong. "I was like, no, we're going to be good," he said. "Admittedly, a lot easier for me. I'm actually from about 120 miles from where the movie is set, and Emily, there's an ocean between her and where the movie is set. "Or the Irish Sea, certainly. So, it was definitely easier for me, but she's amazing." Wild Mountain Thyme is due for release in cinemas this December. You can check out the full trailer below:
