Emma Stone reveals ‘total garbage’ advice she got from a studio executive

You don't have to take all the advice you're given

During the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Awards the actress revealed some "total garbage" advice she received at the start of her acting journey.

It was as she made her acceptance speech after she won the Achievement Award for her role in the film 'Poor Things' she recalled the incident.

"When I first moved to LA, I went to one of those general meetings that they sometimes send you to, and an executive told me that for male actors, it's a marathon, not a sprint," said the actress.

"And in his eyes, for women, it was a sprint, not a marathon. And that was 20 years ago.

"And I realize that advice is total garbage because the majority of the women that I look up to in this industry, many of whom are in this room, have proven that as time goes on, life and work only get more interesting and more fulfilling," she added.

It's clear that his words don't ring true as Emma had her first onstage role at just 11 years old and now at age 35 she's still making waves in the industry.

The 35-year-old was presented with the award by her 'Poor Things' costars Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe.

Speaking about Emma's achievement, the chairman of the film awards Nachhattar Singh Chand said: "Emma Stone continues to exert influence as one of the most important actresses of this generation, whose performances are always exceptional no matter the role.

"In her latest film Poor Things, Emma delivers a burning intensity and character bound for liberation."

Her role in the movie is like nothing we have ever seen from the actress before as she plays a woman who dies and is brought back to life with the brain of an infant.

The character, named Bella, has to relearn how to live life and what she truly wants.
