Emmerdale’s Charley Webb on how she deals with being mum-shamed

Emmerdale star Charley Webb has opened up on how she deals with being mum-shamed.

The actress, who has played Debbie Dingle on the soap since 2002, and her husband  Matthew Wolfenden have three sons together: Ace, Bowie and Buster. And she admitted to OK! Magazine that the trolls don't really bother her - and she mainly just blocks any cruel comments out. She said:

“Mainly I just block it out. I’m not really interested in what anyone else thinks. Everyone parents differently. Matthew and I are big on routines, but I won’t judge parents who aren’t. “If you’re in the public eye people think they’ve got a right to say things to you. They don’t. “These people comment just to get a response. I find that so bizarre and I don’t respond. I don’t think anyone’s life is perfect but we’re all just doing our best as parents. You need to be a team with your kids. “You have to be in charge and they have to know what’s right or wrong, but you can give them choices, like let’s choose a book together, or let’s pick out clothes together.”

The 31-year-old added that she is a "very protective" mum of her three boys, and is "constantly worrying about them". She continued:

“I’m a very protective mum anyway. It’s an animal instinct. I’m constantly worrying about them. “When something goes wrong during birth, it does make you panic and think, oh wow, that could have been a very different story. “But he’s really happy and we’re fine. We’re focusing on getting Ace into his routine and making sure his brothers are happy."

And Charley, who married her husband and co-star Matthew in 2018, added that she has "blocked out" a lot of Ace's traumatic birth - and that she feels "really lucky" now. She said:

“I think I’ve just blocked it out now and forgotten about the whole birth. "It was a really scary moment but I got over it very quickly because Ace was fine in the end. We were really lucky.”
