Gillian Anderson has admitted she initially threw the script for Sex Education in the bin.

Sex Education is about Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), a socially awkward high school student who lives with his sex therapist mother, Jean (Anderson). And while the actress is among fans' favourite parts of the show, it turns out she nearly didn't take part in the project - as she initially felt the script was "too on the nose." “I read a teeny bit of the first episode and threw it in the bin, Initially I felt that it was too on the nose,” she told Entertainment Weekly.  Thankfully, Peter Morgan, her real-life partner and the creator of Netflix's The Crown, talked her into giving the show a second chance. “Pete essentially took it out the bin and read it and loved it, and said, ‘You’re mad. This will be really good for you to do.’ I read it and I thought it was hilarious," she added. Her admission comes as Sex Education's second season recently debuted on Netflix. In season 2, as a late bloomer Otis must master his newly discovered sexual urges in order to progress with his girlfriend Ola whilst also dealing with his now strained relationship with Maeve. Meanwhile, Moordale Secondary is in the throes of a Chlamydia outbreak, highlighting the need for better sex education at the school and new kids come to town who will challenge the status quo.
