Add us as a preferred source on Google »There are many TV shows, movies and musicals that shaped us as teenagers. The arts leave a lasting impression on us personally, but also on society, and one musical that has remained integral in pop culture is The Rocky Horror Show.
Her.ie recently caught up with TV and radio star Jennifer Zamparelli, who has landed the role of the narrator in the production.
Zamparelli will reunite with Jason Donovan, who starred in the 2013 production of Pricilla Queen of the Desert together, when the show returns to Bord Gáis Energy Theatre this August.
The radio presenter said it's important to show that we're allies through art.
Speaking about the impact The Rocky Horror Show has on society, Zamparelli said:
"It's a celebration of love and being yourself and no good judgment, and it's really a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. Now more than ever, shows like this are very important to show that we're allies and friends of the community.
The Rocky Horror Show is one of the oldest-running musicals in history, and Jennifer said she is feeling nervous as the shows get closer.
"I'm really excited, but I'm kind of really scared. You know, I'm standing on stage with West End actors and Jason Donovan."
"When I was in radio, I never had time to even consider doing any of this kind of stuff. I'm at the stage of my life where I want to do stuff that makes me absolutely terrified, and that's a complete challenge."
Zamparelli explained that she wants to do something that "stretches me a little bit more as a person."
She added, "Now, live radio can be just as daunting and scary, but this is a different kind of scary."
There's no doubt the actress will impress theatre-goers in The Rocky Horror Show, especially with such a deep appreciation and understanding of the show's impact.
The Rocky Horror Show runs from August 11th to August 16th at Dublin's Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
