The Oscar-nominee said she will forever be grateful for the people who helped her through that difficult chapter in her life.
However, she stressed that she doesn't "regret it" because that time in her life was so transformative for her.
She explained to BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs that she understands "our vulnerabilities as humans" since being in recovery.
She continued, "You know, you can’t walk through life not being affected, but you can transform that into something that allows you to be more human and alive in the way that you want to be."
Jessie added, "And I’m very grateful for everybody who helped me along the way with that, and for the people who held space for that. I’ve been in therapy since I was 17, and I still go every week."
Jessie Buckley's honesty about two mental illnesses that still carry a lot of taboo in Ireland will undoubtedly help so many people feel less alone in their struggles.
It is so incredibly difficult to discuss such sensitive and upsetting experiences, especially when you're a public figure, but what Buckley has done is help shed dated stigma and make other patients feel seen.

Jessie shared, "I had an eating disorder, and it took time, and it took a lot of help, and also it was depression. I didn’t know how to be alive the way I wanted to be, and it was difficult, but I do not for a second regret it, and I think I’ve been able to transform it and recognise our vulnerabilities as humans in the world."
