Kate Middleton wears green to attend St Patrick's Day events in London.

Kate Middleton and Prince William attended a parade of Irish Guards today, repeating a tradition they have been following for a number of years now. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met officers and warrant officers at their West London base today as Kate Middleton presented them with shamrocks, a custom that's believed to have first started back in 1901 by Queen Alexandra.

The couple also had the chance to reunite with Domhnall, the mascot for the Irish Guards in London, an Irish wolfhound that they have met on several occasions previously.

Kate wore a bespoke coat from Alexander McQueen, one of her favourite designers, keeping with the tradition of wearing green as she has been known to do on the official Irish celebration day. The Irish Guards serve in conflicts overseas but they also have ceremonial duties and public posts at landmark locations including the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. Currently, troops from the battalion are deployed in Kenya, Uganda and Jordan with this marking the start of a busy training period. Kate Middleton and Prince William, together with those attending the St Patrick's Day event, observed a minute's silence for the victims of the terror attack in Christchurch last Friday in which 50 people lost their lives.
