Katy Perry is under environmental investigation

The singer reportedly filmed part of the music video on the isle of S'Espalmador in Formentera.

Most of the music video was filmed in Ibiza and Formentera. The video was set in nightclubs and beaches, but the scenes set in the protected dunes are under fire.

The protected island is one of the most ecologically rich areas of Formentera.

The Government of Spain’s Balearic Islands is investigating the music video.

In a statement, they confirmed Perry's team did not request filming permission.

"Agriculture, Pesca, and Natural Environment clarify that the production company responsible for the recording of Katy Perry's video in Ibiza had not requested authorisation from the Ministry for filming.

"The Natural Park of Ses Salines, from Agriculture, Fishing and the Natural Environment would like to clarify that in no case had the production company requested authorisation from the Ministry to carry out the filming, and that is why preliminary investigation actions have been initiated."

The Department confirmed they're looking into what damage was made during filming.

The area was reportedly marked by a rope, according to the department.

They stressed that no "crime against the environment" was committed because permission to film in the area could be granted.

However, filming of any kind "requires the express authorization of the competent ministry for the environment."

"Without prejudice to other authorizations that can be granted by the corresponding authorities and bodies, including those pertaining to property rights."

Katy Perry has not responded to the reports.
