Add us as a preferred source on Google »Kelsey Parker has received a lot of backlash after admitting she doesn't use SPF on her kids.
On the latest episode of her podcast Mum's The Word!, the 34-year-old mother says she only uses "organic sunscreen."
Parker's co-host, Georgia Jones, asked the mother for advice on how to stop tantrums when applying sunscreen to her son.
Surprising listeners, Parker confessed that she doesn't use SPF on her kids:
"It's cause he knows, Georgia. It's bad for you – that sunscreen," Parker said.
"My kids do not wear sun cream."
The podcast host instead uses an "organic sunscreen", which she claims doesn't make them burn.
Parker continues to say that sunscreen is "so bad", and she never used it growing up.
"The only thing that I may put on them is an organic sun cream," she adds.
"My kids, we went on holiday, I never put sun cream on them, and they do not burn."
Jones responded to the statement, saying her son would look like a "tomato" if she didn't use SPF on him.
Parker replied by saying she should "just keep him out of the sun".
The mother's "organic" sunscreen is made from beeswax and "no bad stuff."
"I just wasn't expecting this was the way it was going to go," Jones responded to her confession.
"I thought you was just going to give me advice on how to do it."
"This is irresponsible podcasting. It’s a personal opinion presented as fact & thus spreading misinformation."
"You have the right to do as you wish with your children, but you have a responsibility not to influence others into making risking decisions.
"A lack of burning does not represent a lack of damage."
Another:
"Sunscreen doesn’t cause skin cancer. The sun does. Stop the madness FFS."
In a previous interview with Her.ie, experts at Eucerin stressed the importance of wearing SPF:
“To prevent sunburn, reduce the risk of skin cancer, and decrease the likelihood of early skin aging, we recommend you wear sunscreen every day.”
Experts suggest putting SPF50 on children and recommend reapplying it throughout the day.
