Kerry Condon’s 16 year old prediction is coming true as she heads to the Oscars

Kerry Condon's 16-year-old dreams are coming true this evening as she heads to the Oscars, and the story is the sweetest thing you'll hear all day. Back in 1998 as a then 16-year-old Kerry was in fifth year at Ursuline Secondary School in Thurles, Co Tipperary, her yearbook came out. Written opposite a geography fieldwork trip were various riddles and it was here that Kerry predicted she'd make it to the Oscars. Writing an article recalling her first movie premiere in Dublin, The Man in the Iron Mask, Kerry dreamed of making it to Hollywood. In the 300 word piece, Kerry spoke about her crush on Leonardo DiCaprio (which we totally get back in '98), the joy of getting her hair and make-up done and wearing a new outfit and needing the leithreas by the time she hit the red carpet. But the standout part of the entire article was her determination to one day make it to the Academy Awards. As she recalls going to the Dublin premiere of The Man in the Iron Mask and being disappointed Leo didn't show, she had gotten the tickets from Gabriel Byrne, and managed to get chatting to Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich "about this and that... you know typical Hollywood stuff!!!". But then came her ending: "Before I knew (it) it was over... well my big night had to end somehow, at least I got my wish and who knows what could be next... Oscars?" 25 years later and only hours away from the ceremony, Kerry will walk the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood this evening as a nominee. Kerry first attended the Oscars in 2012 as part of the cast of The Shore, which won Best Short Film. She also starred in Martin McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri which was nominated for seven awards in 2018. This year will be the first that Kerry is nominated on her own, as she is up for Best Supporting Actress for playing Siobhán in McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin. Related links:
