The Sex And The City reboot could have looked a lot different as another of the leading ladies almost turned down her appearance in the latest spin off. Cynthia Nixon, who is best known for playing Miranda Hobbes in the show, has admitted that she only agreed to do the series under one specific condition. Labelling the original series "tone deaf" due to some race and gender issues they previously dealt with, Cynthia would only return if they agreed to tackle more diverse topics. The series is now delving into more modern issues, including her own character taking a look into her sexuality, something Cynthia welcomes as she has been married to education activist Christine Marinoni since 2012. In an interview with the Herald Sun, she said: "But the more I talked to Sarah Jessica [Parker], [writer-creator] Michael Patrick King, and Kristin [Davis], about the things that I couldn’t go back without – a real sea change in terms of the lack of diversity in the original series, they were on board. "I’m very proud of the original series – despite it being occasionally tone-deaf on race and gender." Speaking with Elle magazine recently, Cynthia couldn't praise the new series enough as she raved about the "breathtaking" new cast and gender diverse characters.
