Maia posted the message on her Instagram and wrote the perfect response alongside it.
She said, "I brought Tom to a work event this morning, something I often have to do, then there was shopping for new school shoes, followed by the trade off of popping into Mark’s Models to spend some of his birthday money. I have to work again this afternoon from home, and all his friends are away, so he’ll do some model building and then we’re going swimming together!
"It’s a massive juggle at the best of times, but summer is tougher, and everywhere are reminders of the 'traditional' family units we’re not in. I prioritise him over everything, and we do probably spend more time together than most mums and sons on account of our family logistics, but that’s just the way it is."
Maia explained that there isn't another option, but she wouldn't change their life for the world.
She told her followers that she shares some photos of her son online because "we’re together so much of the time, it’s pretty hard to share any of my life without sharing bits of him."
"I could sit here and list off the ways in which I protect my son, the money I’ve turned down to use him in campaigns, the things I wouldn’t dream of sharing online, etc, etc, but I don’t need to.
"The fact that another woman thought it would be a helpful thing to send someone a message like this is baffling!!
" I could break down the psychology behind it, how it shows a very innate sense of superiority and a passive-aggressive judgmental nature (she must be a real joy to live with!) but really I just want to tell her to f*ck off. So f**k off, Fiona."
Maia's followers praised the mum for her response.
One wrote, "I also have a son who isn't in a traditional family unit and your posts are actually very reassuring that us mothers of boys can create our own way to live."
Another said, "You and your Tom have a brilliant relationship and I enjoy seeing your adventures! Don't mind the negative and the jealous....unfortunately, they are out there."
