Meghan Markle is ‘working on a children’s book about her rescue dogs’

Meghan Markle is reportedly writing a children's book. The Duchess of Sussex, who will be celebrating her birthday this weekend, will "absolutely not" be writing about her life in the royal family. The fictional book is, instead, said to be about her love of animals - and would likely include her rescue dogs. A royal insider told The Sun:

“Meghan is going to become a published author and is very excited about it. “The plans are in the very early stages and won’t be formally announced for some time. But she’s very excited about the possibility and is passionate about the idea of a work of fiction for children. “She loves animals and her rescue dogs so it’s very likely they will be incorporated into the story. “Any book will absolutely not be some sort of tell-all about her life in the royal family.”

The duchess would be following in the footsteps of a number of royals who have released children's books. Prince Charles released The Old Man of Lochnagar in 1980, while Sarah Ferguson was the author of a series of books about Budgie the Helicopter in the late 1990s. The move comes after it was revealed Meghan would be launching a fashion collection - all for a charitable cause. The Duchess of Sussex has teamed up with a number of leading retailers including Marks and Spencer, John Lewis and Jigsaw for the collection. Misha Nonoo, one of Meghan's close friends, is the fourth brand coming on board for the project. Proceeds from the fashion line will go to Smart Works, a charity that helps unemployed women with job opportunities, including interview preparation and styling sessions. Smart Works is one of Meghan's royal patronages and the workwear line is given a mention in the September issue of British Vogue, co-edited by the mum of one.
