Monica Lewinsky opens up about her “greatest regret” ahead of new series

She's telling all.

With American Crime Story bringing the story that made her famous to life in their third season, Monica Lewinsky has taken on some very personal questions alongside it. Acting as a producer on Impeachment: American Crime Story, the former presidential intern's 90s affair with then President Bill Clinton is being brought to the small screen, and this ultimately led to his impeachment. The now 48 year old spoke to Vanity Fair earlier this week and revealed some very personal details about her life, including her biggest regret to date. In the Q&A session, Monica was asked about her "when and where were you happiest?," which she replied: "That’s a secret." And when asked "on what occasion do you lie?", Monica replied: "See: 1998." But then came the question we're all dying to know the answer to, what is her "greatest regret." Opening up about it, she answered: "That some of my choices have caused others suffering." The latest series of American Crime Story tells the story of Clinton being impeached by the House of Representatives in December 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice after he tried covering up his affair with Lewinsky, which began in 1995. The Senate however acquitted him of the charges and he served the remainder of his second term. Ryan Murphy's Impeachment will be told from the perspective of Lewinsky, Linda Tripp, who had been recording her and Lewinsky's conversations, and Paula Jones, who accused Clinton of sexual harassment which ultimately led to the affair coming to light. The series is based on Jeffrey Toobin's book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President. In an essay for Vanity Fair, Lewinsky once wrote: "There were many, many moments when I questioned not just the decision to participate, but my sanity itself. "Despite all of the ways I tried to protect my mental health, it was still challenging."
